Back in the 1990s a man named Jack Kevorkian brought to the world story-line a thing called “Doctor assisted suicide”. At the time it was shocking for most people. He went to court a number of times walking away scot-free. Not so the last time, when we were told he went to prison. In my mind death is easily construed as harm when it is implemented by choice. So much for the Hippocratic oath.
And while we are at it, let’s consider the idea of drugs that deliver side-effects that are undeniably harmful. I have recently witnessed ads on TV that list a drugs side effect as death! From organ damage to loss of body control to permanent loss of senses, drug’s that carry these side effects are openly advertised in the public sphere. At what point do we step back and declare the obvious? Our medical system is harming us, for profit and by design.
