It has been said that what is written in the stars cannot be changed by any man. The importance of the stars has been shown in culture after culture, back through time…until you get to the modern era in the West. We seem to be unique in that we replaced the age-old integration of the Skyclock in daily life with science. Although we still have planet names on our days, there is no longer any relationship in our minds as to why that is. The one thing we have held onto in the sky above is the sun and, oddly enough, we use that in a very broad way to create our calendar.
To be clear, using the sun alone for our calendars creates a shifting non-logical division of annual time from months to week to days. As one example, if we simply used the moon to establish our months, we could have 13 months of equal length, where the first and last day of a week would land on the same day each week of the month, or moonth. Maybe those who implemented our solar driven time had other things in mind…who knows?
